Gavin Barn
Gavin Barn, which is located in Ivy, Virginia, is a timber framed gable barn with wings. It is 1,840 square feet. 11,500 board feet of tulip, poplar, white oak and eastern red cedar. 90% of the project was completed milling salvaged wood from the property, saving the client $15,000. This was a dream project for a great client who had seen Dans work and asked him to design and build a structure from a pile of cleared trees from a new septic field. This barn was the beginning of the Gavin Homestead now includes pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens. There is a large fenced garden of cedar raised beds that Dan milled from salvaged logs.
The barn has become a community hub for the neighborhood. It has become a gathering place for kids and adults to play and cultivate a connection to animals and the land, while strengthening the bonds in their community.
