Shankari Goldstein
Shankari Goldstein is a 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), activist, artist, farmer, and is currently studying herbalism. She has spent years connecting to breath, body, strength, movement, and energy to cultivate a holistic approach to being with the land. Her passions for unconventional and regenerative farming include growing medicinal herbs, cultivating contemplative green spaces for healing, and managing over 100 animals on over 200 acres.
In addition to managing the farm she works with the Mind & Life Institute, developing programming and content. Her most current projects include the webinar series “Inspiring Minds”. In 2020 she co-founded the State of Union (Yoga) Address, a groundbreaking six-part series that uplifted and amplified the voices and experiences of Black and Brown Yoga teachers and activists. From 2016 - 2020, she was the Director and Program Curator of Shensara Yoga , Music & Art Festival. In 2016 she released her debut Kirtan album titled “Virgo Meets Libra,” and went on a multi state tour with The Ascendants.
Shankari is a passionate activist and advocate for environmental and racial justice. With over a decade of experience, she focuses on amplifying the voices of the Global Majority and sharing their embodied practices and wisdom. As a Black farmer in the mid-Atlantic region, she educates her contemplative community on food sovereignty and provides tools for beginners to understand their role in maintaining ecological wellness systems.
Shankari shares her love of animals and her medicinal herb garden, inspiring contemporary yogis to incorporate sustainability, activism, and a connection to nature into their practice. In her sessions, Shankari shares foraging techniques, land management principles, environmental causes, discussions on race and equity, and techniques for making homemade remedies from garden-harvested medicines, among other things. Shankari believes that by trusting in our divine ancestral intuition, we can tap into our truth and passion.
Shankari is a visionary whose calling is to cultivate platforms where the voices of the Global Majority can flourish and reach new ears. In every setting she engages with, be it a community organization or a client consultation, Shankari ignites discussions on Race and Equity. Her aim is to facilitate open and honest conversations that allow individuals to reflect and contemplate the impact of these issues on our society. Shankari's dedication to this cause drives her to work with organizations and individuals, providing guidance and counsel as they navigate these important topics. Through her efforts, she hopes to effect positive change and shape a more inclusive and equitable culture.
